Los Angeles Rams: 3 Takeaways From Week 14 Loss vs. Bears

USA TODAY Sports

Sean McVay Can Be His Worst Enemy Sometimes

Of course, everyone knows how much of an offensive genius that Sean McVay is. He is arguably the brightest offensive-minded coach in the NFL.

On the other side of things, he still has things he’ll need to learn to go forward. One of those things is, he has to learn to run the ball with Todd Gurley more often. I know that seems easy, but when you’re someone like McVay, you can get in your own way sometimes.

There have been a few times over the last two seasons that McVay has turned away from the run game too early. Week 14 was one of those games. McVay did take the blame for the Rams loss though against the Bears.

This has been one of those times that the loss might have been mostly on McVay. When you have a running back as talented as Gurley, you have to utilize him as much as possible. This is especially true when your quarterback is struggling and the Bears pass rush is having their way.

Against the Bears, Gurley ran it just 11 times and had just 14 total touches. That has to increase in upcoming weeks if the Rams want to get rolling again.

This was a good game for the Rams to learn from as McVay mentioned after pitting the Rams loss on himself.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see a heavy dose of Gurley next Sunday night against the Eagles. Some fans are questioning his play-calling, with him wanting to put that to rest.
