NFL: 7 potential surprising cuts prior to the 2020 season

Mohamed Sanu

Throughout the 2019 season, it was apparent that the New England Patriots lacked pass-catching options — outside of Julian Edelman. Therefore, the Patriots elected to complete a trade for veteran Mohamed Sanu ahead of the trade deadline last season.

After giving up a second-round pick for Sanu, he failed to produce the results that New England expected. Besides his Week 9 performance versus the Baltimore Ravens — where he caught 10 passes for 81 yards and a touchdown — Sanu would combine for only 16 catches, 126 yards, and zero touchdowns in his other seven games with the Patriots.

Nonetheless, New England has kept Sanu on the roster this offseason in hopes he can be a key contributor in 2020. Although, it’s entirely possible that the Patriots cut their losses and release Sanu to free up $6.5 million in cap space in the coming months.
