Kawann Short
When Matt Rhule was hired as the next head coach of the Carolina Panthers, it was evident the team was going to go through an overhaul. Besides Vernon Butler, the Panthers took a hit on the defensive line with veterans Dontari Poe and Gerald McCoy departing in free agency.
On the other hand, Carolina is expected to get Kawann Short back from injury in 2020. Short missed 14 games in 2019 after being placed on injured reserve because of a partially torn rotator cuff.
As good as Short was before 2019, it is unclear what he’ll look like upon returning from a season-ending injury. In addition to that, it’s too early to tell if he’ll be a fit for new defensive coordinator Eric Snow’s defense. Lastly, the selection of Derrick Brown in the 2020 NFL Draft and Short’s massive $19.4 cap hit next season could prompt the Panthers to make him a cap casualty before the 2020 season.
