Nate Solder
Back in 2018, the New York Giants made Nate Solder one of the richest offensive lineman in NFL history, giving him a massive four-year, $62 million deal. After having seven fantastic seasons with the Patriots, the Giants thought they were getting a Pro-Bowl level talent in Solder.
On the contrary, while Solder has started in all 32 games for New York in the past two seasons, his performance hasn’t matched the contract he was given. Just this past season, the veteran left tackle surrendered a whopping 11 sacks (third-most in the NFL) on 1,011 offensive snaps.
Seeing that the Giants paid Solder his $3 million roster bonus in March, it’s unlikely that they’ll release him at this point. However, by releasing him this offseason, New York can spread out his $16 million in dead cap space over the next two seasons. Plus, the Giants added Andrew Thomas and Matt Peart in the 2020 NFL Draft, casting a dark cloud over Solder’s future with the organization.
