Denzel Perryman
Just as expected, the Los Angeles Chargers took their hopeful successor to Philip Rivers, drafting Justin Herbert with the No. 6 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Then, after taking Herbert to eventually be their leader on offense, the Chargers traded back into the first round to take Kenneth Murray with the No. 23 pick.
Murray was a standout linebacker at Oklahoma in college and should immediately see the field in Los Angeles. Provided that, it is uncertain what Denzel Perryman’s role with the team will look like in 2020.
In the past five seasons, Perryman has started for the Chargers despite missing an assortment of games due to injuries. Before the 2019 season, Los Angeles inked Perryman to a two-year, $12 million extension. With Perryman set to have a $7.5 million cap hit next season, the Chargers could choose to move on from him instead of him letting him play out the final year of his contract.
