The Dallas Cowboys are heading into a huge matchup in Week 9 on the road against their NFC East rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles. This is the second chance the Cowboys will have to play against a team many consider the class of the NFC to test their mettle.
The first opportunity Dallas had came in Week 5. They went on the road to face the San Francisco 49ers and got demolished, losing 42-10. The Eagles are coming into this week’s matchup with a 7-1 record, their only loss being to the New York Jets in Week 6.
Dominant on both sides of the ball, Philadelphia will test Dallas in every facet of the game. The player who most people will be keeping the closest eye on is Cowboys quarterback, Dak Prescott.
Prescott’s performance thus far this season has been okay. Four of his 10 touchdown passes came last weekend against the Los Angeles Rams and he has thrown five interceptions in seven games. Three of those interceptions came in the disaster against the 49ers.
Will he have a repeat performance against another tough defense in the Eagles? Former NFL star wide receiver turned analyst Keyshawn Johnson doesn’t believe so. He thinks Prescott is going to step up in the face of pressure and put together a strong game for the Cowboys.
“When you look at his lifetime record at teams above .500, it’s not so great. But I think he will play well because everyone’s watching,” Johnson said on UNDISPUTED on FS1.
That isn’t as bold of a take as many would assume it is. Prescott has found a lot of success against the Eagles in his career, winning the last three starts he has made against them with an 8-3 record overall.
The Cowboys are going to need another strong performance like that to pull off the upset. This is a huge game for Dallas as a victory would bring them within a half-game of the NFC East lead. A loss would put them 2.5 games behind and likely have them focusing on a Wild Card spot instead of a division title the rest of the way.
