Seattle Seahawks — Pass rush
When the Seahawks were able to acquire Jadeveon Clowney ahead of the 2019 season, it was expected that they would have a much-improved pass rush.
On the contrary, Seattle went from having 43 sacks in 2018 to only 28 sacks last season (second-to-last in the NFL). At the same time, the Seahawks also recorded an adjusted sack rate of 6.6 percent, which was 21st in the NFL.
While it remains to be seen if Clowney returns to Seattle after he failed to receive much interest in free agency, the team added Benson Mayowa and reunited with Bruce Irvin this offseason. Also, the Seahawks are hoping that L.J. Collier can bounce back from a quiet rookie season in 2019.
There’s no doubt that Seattle no longer has the defense they once had when the reigned supreme in the NFC West with the “Legion of Boom”. Nonetheless, while the entire defense is littered with concerns, for the Seahawks to return to dominance on defense, they’ll need a more effective pass rush in the upcoming season.
