Carolina Panthers
The Carolina Panthers are another team in the NFC South that was plagued by a genuinely bad defense in 2019. It’s still going to be difficult for them to turn things around without a real rebuild, especially with the retirement of Luke Keuchly.
Using the 2020 NFL Draft, the Panthers placed a clear emphasis on adding talent on defense. The No. 64 pick was used by Carolina to select former Southern Illinois standout Jeremy Chinn to add an intriguing prospect at the safety position.
The expectation is that Chinn would start if the NFL season were to start today, as Panthers head coach Matt Rhule stated. There’s more to it to consider when factoring in it could be at strong safety or outside linebacker. How Chinn is used is something to watch.
There is still time for the Panthers to figure out how exactly they intend to use Chinn to start his rookie campaign. How he performs throughout the rest of training camp could have a real influence on how the depth chart shakes, but mostly likely, the linebacker spot will be where he starts.
