4. Eagles Acquire Darius Slay
The Philadelphia Eagles made it to shore up their personnel on the defensive side of the ball. Coming off an NFC East title, they needed to take risks in order to stay on top. Their efforts were headlined by acquiring Darius Slay in a sign-and-trade with the Detroit Lions.
It goes a long way to have a shutdown corner that embraces challenges in man-to-man coverage. It’s another thing to have a No. 1 corner that has the results to go along with that type of mentality. For reference, he has allowed a 51.8% completion percentage (3rd) over his last three seasons.
While many can debate who ranks in the top three or five of any given position, what matters most is that Philadelphia has definitively one of the better corners in the NFL. For a team in a division that features the Dallas Cowboys’ trio of receivers, it’s a necessity.
The team-friendly nature of Slay’s deal only makes the move all the more advantageous for the Eagles, too. His cap number for 2020 is just $4.3 million and most of his cap charge coming in 2021 at $15.75 million. This afforded Philadelphia necessary flexibility this offseason.
