5. Giants Select Andrew Thomas in NFL Draft
It’s no secret the New York Giants have struggled to field an impactful offensive line unit in recent years. They made a significant investment this offseason to shore up the left tackle spot, in particular. Using the No. 4 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, New York chose to go with Andrew Thomas.
Being able to swap out Nate Solder with a genuinely intriguing left tackle prospect could go a long way. Last season, Solder allowed 11 sacks and ranked third at his position in 2019, per PFF. Making a change was sorely needed and Daniel Jones should receive relief from pressure as a result.
Another benefit of bolstering the offensive line with an anchor like Thomas is that his presence will make things easier on Saquon Barkley. The electrifying running back talent had to transcend some difficult circumstances in 2019, but with cleaner running lanes, watch out.
There may be an adjustment period required for Thomas as he becomes acclimated to the NFL level. Regardless of how he performs in 2020, the value of a dynamic left tackle prospect can be a critical part of a rebuild. Especially when talents like Barkley and Jones are already there.
