Week 9 – San Francisco 49ers (Road)
This past year, the Green Bay Packers didn’t just have one bad must win experience but had two of them against the San Francisco 49ers. The first time was a test that Green Bay needed to pass and miserably failed because it would have put them in the front seat for the 2019 playoff seeding.
The second matchup was just an uppercut punch after uppercut punch with Green Bay’s defense giving up 220 yards to running back Raheem Mostert and was smothered by a suffocating defense.
The biggest concern regarding the 49ers is Jimmy Garoppolo’s ability to execute in big games. He seemed to be carried by that running game throughout the playoffs but people point to last years super bowl. When it came time to counter blow for blow with the chiefs, Garoppolo was missing wide open receivers and had trouble reading the defensive scheme in crunch time.
Now don’t get it twisted, San Francisco is still the cream of the crop in the NFC. That defense has 10 returning starters and should be a seamless transition from Deforest Buckner being traded to Javon Kinlaw being drafted. The skill positions on offense are solid with Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, George Kittle, Kyle Jusczczyk, Raheem Mostert and Tevin Coleman.
In Week 9 this should be one of the featured match ups in all of 2020 with Green Bay looking for revenge from the NFC championship in 2019. It will be the third match up in two years of teacher versus student in Kyle Shanahan and Matt Lafluer.
This is definitely a must win, but a difficult one at that being played in San Francisco. People always say third times the charm right?
