Julian Edelman is Getting Older

Not only will the New England Patriots need to determine if they can and want to retain Mohamed Sanu beyond the 2020 season, but they also need to think about Julian Edelman’s future over the next few years.

Edelman provides a crucial element to the Patriots’ offense operating primarily out of the slot. There is no denying his impact. However, he will be 35-years-old at the start of the 2021 season. How much longer will he be able to play at a high-level?

It would be wise for the Patriots to seek options that can shoulder a heavier load as Edelman ages. A player like Keenan Allen would be able to shoulder the No. 1 role while enabling New England to field some intriguing options within their offense.

The Patriots would position themselves for the post-Edelman era by being able to bring Allen in next offseason. They could transition Edelman into a lesser role to help extend his career.
