Seahawks Take On A Backfield-By-Committee
Chris Carson has done a very good job as the Seahawks workhorse the past couple years. However, he had issues holding onto the football last year. One way to limit turnovers is to lower a players workload. The Seahawks have a lot of depth at running back. While Rashaad Penny is starting the season on the PUP list, Carlos Hyde is still a very good backup running back.
While he has bounced around the league since his time in San Francisco, Hyde is still a very solid running back. He ran for over 1,000 yards last season behind an average Texans offensive line. The pair of Hyde and Carson could be among the leagues best.
Once Rashaad Penny returns from the PUP list the Seahawks will have a three-headed monster in their backfield. If it weren’t for the Ravens being so dominant on the ground with Jackson, Ingram, and Dobbins, Seattle would be my choice to lead the league in rushing.
While none of the backs in Seattle’s backfield will likely hit any career highs, the three together will be a force. Rashaad Penny has yet to crack 500 yards rushing. However, he has averaged over 4.5 yards per carry each season. It’s unlikely he will crack 500 due to his time on the sideline but he should be just as efficient. The pair of Hyde and Carson both have the potential to crack 750 yards.
During the 2020 season, Carson finishes around 950 and 7 touchdowns. Meanwhile, Hyde adds 750 rushing yards but cracks 1,000 all-purpose yards with 400 receiving yards. Neither running back will be in a situation that will afford them the carries or receptions to put up huge numbers, but each back will be important in the rotation.
