The Saints will most likely be without star wideout, Michael Thomas

In the Saints’ Week 1 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, star wideout Michael Thomas was injured. Although the severity of the injury was not made clear during the game, it was later on reported that Thomas suffered an ankle injury. It is no secret that Thomas is Drew Brees’ favorite target. The trio of Brees, Kamara, and Thomas is one that often gives defenses nightmares.

It was reported last week that Thomas’ injury was severe. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero tweeted the following:

Saints star WR Michael Thomas’ high ankle-injury is worse than originally believed, and he’s now expected to miss several weeks, sources tell me and @RapSheet. Thomas is as tough as they come and surely will try to defy that timeline. But it’ll be a battle.

Sources later confirmed that Thomas is expected to miss 2-4 weeks. After their Monday night defeat to the Las Vegas Raiders, Thomas is now expected to miss 1-3 weeks. Doctors will look at Thomas’ injury, evaluate it and see if he can play this Sunday night. As of right now, Thomas is listed as doubtful for their primetime game against the Green Bay Packers.

In the Saints’ first game without Thomas, Alvin Karama was the featured wide receiver reeling in nine catches for 95 yards. Tre’Quan Smith had five catches for 86 yards and surprisingly, Emmanuel Sanders only had one catch for 18 yards.

Sanders was acquired by the Saints in free agency and fans should expect him to be more involved on Sunday. The Green Bay secondary is allowing an average of 233 yards per game. Going up against a strong Green Bay backend who can apply pressure on the quarterback, the Saints are going to have a hard time offensively.
