Kevin Stefanski’s Offensive System
It didn’t take long to see that former head coach Freddie Kitchens was not suited for the job with the Cleveland Browns last season. As a result, they elected to move on from him after one season, replacing him with former Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Kevin Stefanski.
The impact Stefanski can provide was put on full display with the resurgence of Kirk Cousins’ career. Stefanski opened up the offense more by utilizing savvy screen passes and having Cousins take shots deep downfield at a higher frequency. This will help Odell Beckham Jr. directly.
When accounting for the Browns’ personnel being ideal for Stefanski’s system, it becomes all the more intriguing. Cleveland has a dynamic running back to set the tone in Nick Chubb and they made upgrades at both tackle spots.
Opposing teams will have to account for the Browns having more creativity in their offensive system, along with more appropriate play calling. Both areas were problematic for Cleveland in 2019 and that’s an issue for a No. 1 receiver who is a priority for defenses to contain.
