2. Laviska Shenault Jr., Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jacksonville Jaguars are getting torched by analyst right now, and I just don’t see why. While Garnder Minshew II isn’t the stereotypical franchise QB, he proved to everyone he was far more than a fad last season. The only issue with Jacksonville was they lacked depth at wide receiver. However, after drafting rookie Laviska Shenault Jr. in the second round, that’s no longer the case.
Shenault Jr. is a hybrid receiver who can make plays when he gets the ball in his hands. While injury concerns forced him to fall to the second round, he was clearly a first round talent. Although usually I am not too high on hybrid receivers (drafting Cordarrelle Patterson his sophomore and third year in the league ruined it for me) they can be very effective given the right opportunity. Deebo Samuel proved that last season.
Viska is just as, if not more, physically gifted than Samuel. Jaguars Head Coach seems impressed with what he has seen so far. Marrone gave his initial impression on the rookie receiver stating, with nothing but great things to say.
Jacksonville has both Chris Conley and Dede Westbrook on their roster. However Westbrook is more fit for the slot, and Conley has been inconsistent throughout his career. Laviska may emerge as the top secondary option after training camp.
Look for Laviska to emerge as one of the top receivers from this talented class, solidifying himself as a legitimate contributor from a fantasy football perspective, too.
