Keenan Allen
One of the teams that witnessed a quarterback change this offseason was the Los Angeles Chargers. After 16 seasons, the Chargers are moving on from Philip Rivers. And as of this moment, it appears that Tyrod Taylor will get the first crack at replacing Rivers in 2020. While Taylor can be more efficient in certain areas, one thing is for certain; the Chargers are going to be throwing a lot less than they did when Rivers was under center.
As a result, Keenan Allen is unlikely to contribute the numbers he’s grown accustomed to in recent seasons. In the past three seasons alone, he’s seen 136+ targets with Rivers leading the charge on offense. Without Rivers slinging the ball around, it’s hard to envision Allen commanding the same number of targets in 2020. Even if Justin Herbert ends up starting, it’s hard to see him significantly boosting Allen’s stock in fantasy football.
With fantasy drafts beginning to commence, Allen is currently the 21st wide receiver being selected. Ironically enough, he’s being taken slightly ahead of T.Y. Hilton — who will be catching passes from Allen’s former quarterback. Allen is also being drafted before Terry McLaurin. Seeing that the Washington Redskins are still amid a rebuild, McLaurin is poised to have an enlargened role in 2020.
Similar to Landry and Diggs, Allen is a remarkable wide receiver in his own right. But with the uncontrollable factors that each of them could experience next season, all of them appear to be avoidable options in fantasy football.
