Round 2, Pick 52: Cam Akers (RB, Florida State)

Grade: C+

The Rams began their draft by selecting Cam Akers, the running back out of Florida State. Once Akers was announce as the pick, fans in Los Angeles were left scratching their heads on the decision to take a running back.

Earlier this offseason, the Rams released Todd Gurley before his new extension even kicked in. While Gurley was no longer with the team, Los Angeles didn’t have a shortage at running back, with Darrell Henderson and Malcolm Brown already in the backfield.

In terms of talent, Akers is uberly talented, showing his elusiveness behind a putrid offensive line at Florida State. On the other hand, in terms of need, the Rams didn’t particularly have one at the running back position. Not to mention, Los Angeles traded up to select Henderson in last year’s draft, making the choice of Akers an interesting one.
