Dallas Cowboys
It’s no secret the Dallas Cowboys still need to reach an agreement on a long-term contract extension with franchise-quarterback Dak Prescott. They have until July to get this done and it will only add further complication to the overall situation if it doesn’t happen.
This offseason was already an example for the Cowboys regarding what can happen when multiple high-level players need extensions. In order to keep Amari Cooper and be positioned to sign Prescott long-term, Dallas had to allow Byron Jones to walk in free agency.
After the upcoming season, talents like Tyrone Crawford, Chidobe Aquzie, Sean Lee, Jourdan Lewis, Xavier Woods, and HaHa Clinton-Dix will have their current contracts expire and will need an extension. It would be difficult to try keeping them after a potential extension for Prescott were to begin.
The situation becomes for the Cowboys if they fail to accomplish a successful 2020 season. Having to consider paying top dollar for an underachieving team that has failed to meet expectations in back-to-back seasons would be tough.
