Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs made headline earlier in the offseason for being prepared to give franchise-quarterback Patrick Mahomes a historic contract extension. They also are facing the NFL’s approaching deadline to sign Chris Jones to a long-term deal.
Being able to keep both talents is obviously a no-brainer for the Chiefs to stay in Super Bowl contention. However, the landscape of the team’s finances for next offseason will be tight and it could require some real creativity to fill some key holes.
As things currently stand, Chris Jones (unless signed to extension), Sammy Watkins, Daniel Sorensen, Austin Reiter, Damien Williams, Bashaud Breeland, and Laurent Duvernay-Tardif are all set to become free agents in 2021. It won’t be easy to replace them considering the circumstances.
As long as the Chiefs have Mahomes throwing passes to game-wrecking talents like Travis Kelce and Treek Hill, they will be just fine. It will just be more difficult for them to fill out their roster with difference-making talent outside of the NFL Draft.
