3. Cincinnati Bengals
Cincinnati broke its usual mold this offseason, spending some serious money in free agency. The Bengals wrote several large checks, signing cornerbacks Mackensie Alexander and Trae Waynes, defensive tackle D.J. Reader, and safety Vonn Bell.
Zac Taylor’s offense seems primed for a breakout season. The unit added Joe Burrow and Tee Higgins in the draft. A.J. Green and Jonah Williams also return after missing last season with injuries. However, the team’s defense could become an Achilles heel in 2020.
Luckily, the Bengals possess roughly $76.3 million in projected cap space next year. With so many key contributors on rookie deals, Cincinnati can go after several high-profile players in free agency. Bosa’s name should be at the top of their board.
The Bengals already sport several productive pass rushers, but the team doesn’t have anyone with Bosa’s potential. Last season, the team’s leaders in sacks were Carlos Dunlap (9.0), Sam Hubbard (8.5), Carl Lawson (5.0), and Geno Atkins (4.5). One year remains on Lawson’s deal while Dunlap and Hubbard both have two years left.
Atkins is 32 years old while Dunlap is 31. The Bengals might chase some youth along the defensive line next offseason.
