Packers Have Three Very Talented Running Backs
Last season was a breakout year for Packers running back Aaron Jones. He ended up being tied with Derrick Henry for the most total rushing touchdowns in 2019. The running game wasn’t all just about Jones for the Packers and it won’t be in 2020 either.
While Jones was the primary back, Jamaal Williams proved to be one of the best reserve running backs in the NFL. The Packers then went on to draft A.J. Dillon out of Boston College in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, providing them with a trio of talented backfield options.
Dillon was a very productive back in college. While his size is the first thing that one would notice, looking at his tape, he does have very good footwork. He has excellent vision and is a nightmare to tackle once he reaches the secondary.
While adding a big back like Dillon will likely lessen Jones’ workload, I expect him to be as productive as ever this season. There will be a decreased injury risk for Jones, who has struggled in this area at times in his career. Teams will have to account for consistently fresh running backs in the Packers’ backfield throughout games.
