Steelers: 4 moves Pittsburgh should still try to make before the season

4. Sign Josh McCown

This may seem like an insignificant move but the 2019 season would beg to differ. Roethlisberger is not invincible and it would be beneficial to the team to have a veteran backup quarterback if he were to get hurt once again. McCown spent last season with the Philadelphia Eagles and is currently a free agent. The 41-year old quarterback has said he wants to continue playing.

McCown is going to be a great coordinator one day. He is always coaching on the sidelines and that is something that the Steelers could use. Rudolph did not impress last season. He finished with 13 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

Hodges was worse throwing for just five touchdowns and eight interceptions during his time. The Steelers used a third-round pick in 2018 on Rudolph. McCown is the type of leader that could come in and be in his ear all game long.

Again, this may not seem like a significant move. The Steelers are hoping that they will not have to worry about a backup quarterback this season. Signing McCown does more than just add a capable backup. It brings in a leader and a strong voice on the sidelines.
