The Defense is Ready to Contend
The Pittsburgh Steelers have placed a strong emphasis on building an elite defense and have been successful in their efforts. Ever since the acquisition of Minkah Fitzpatrick from the Miami Dolphins, they have emerged as one of the absolute top defenses in the NFL.
When looking at the Steelers’ production in many overview defensive categories from last season, it’s easy to be impressed. They allowed just 4,866 total yards (5th) while allowing just a 29.9% score percentage (4th) and racking up an NFL most 38 takeaways.
Despite all of that success, the Steelers ended up producing just an 8-8 record and narrowly being beaten out by the Tennessee Titans for the final Wild Card spot in the AFC. Simply put, Pittsburgh experienced a crippling lack of results on offense proving to be too much to overcome.
Being able to trade for a quarterback like Aaron Rodgers would prevent the Steelers from wasting the success they achieve on defense after Ben Roethlisberger retires. They’d be able to have confidence that generating a takeaway will result in a favorable chance to put more points on the board.
