10. Brock Purdy, Iowa State
Purdy entered the collegiate football landscape in 2018 when Iowa State faced off against Oklahoma State in their fifth game of the season. In his first real action, Purdy completed 78.3% of his pass attempts for 318 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception.
The 20-year-old quarterback finished his freshman season with 2,250 yards, 16 touchdowns, seven interceptions, and high hopes for his sophomore campaign.
For the most part, Purdy delivered on the promising potential he displayed as a true freshman. In 2019, he completed 65.7% of his pass attempts for 3,982 yards, 27 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. Purdy also scored nine touchdowns with his legs.
Unfortunately, the Cyclones didn’t improve in 2019, dropping from 8-5 in 2018 to 7-6. Notre Dame and Ian Book obliterated Iowa State in the Camping World Bowl 9-33. It was the only game that Purdy didn’t throw a touchdown in last season.
Despite all of his upside, Purdy is more susceptible to lapses in judgment than some players higher on this list. When pressured and forced to make throws on the run or off his back foot, Purdy can lob balls into double coverage. He needs to work on being more poised under pressure and learn when it’s better to take a sack than make a risky throw.
